Under the auspices of His Holiness Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan, the Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Agartala where the church has close to 400 parishes, held its General Convention from November 4-6, 2022.
Over 10,000 clergy and lay members of the church, representing four dioceses and 4 mission provinces of Tripura gathered together for a time of fellowship, learning and spiritual encouragement.
HG John Mor Irenaeus Episcopa, HG Justin Mor Thomas Episcopa, HG Anil Mor Philemon Episcopa and HG Joshua Mor Barnabas Episcopa were the keynote speakers at the convention.
The convention also featured cultural program which was inaugurated with the lighting of lamp by H.H. Pradyot Bikram Kishore Manikya DebBarma, the current head of the Tripuran Royal Family and a philanthropist who advocates for the rights and development of Indigenous people of Tripura. Speaking on the occasion he expressed his joy to be part of the program.
Shree Biplab Kumar Deb, Rajya Shabha MP and former Chief Minister of Tripura, inaugurated the third day’s program with the lighting of the lamp to mark the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit mahotsav. During his inaugural address he said the development of Janajati people has been accelerated following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sincere vision. He further added that under PM Modi’s leadership, all undesired differences have been eradicated and amicable coexistence has been ensured for all.
Lauding the social welfare activities of the church he said Believers Eastern Church has been working tirelessly for the upliftment of people living in poverty and for the development of our country.
The convention drew to a close with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Sunday.
