100 Widows Receive Dry Ration Kits in Diocese of Kolkata

Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kolkata, under the guidance of H.G. Justin Mor Thomas Episcopa, organized dry ration kit distribution programs for widows in two islands in South 24 Parganas District on 16 September 2021.

A total of 100 widowed women were helped by the distribution programs. These widows have been going through severe hardships owing to the Covid-19 crisis and Cylone Yas which destroyed their mud houses and whatever little they had, leaving them to fend for themselves.

Responding to the crisis, Diocese of Kolkata reached out to these widows with relief items. Each widow received a kit containing 5 kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1 kg puffed fice, 3 kg potatoes, ½ kg onion, ½ litre oil, ½ kg salt, 200 gms soya bean, 2 packets of washing powder and soap. These women happily received the much-needed items with gratitude.

Basanti Gayen, a 68- year-old widowed mother, said, “I will be forever grateful for the help that the church has given me during this time of crisis”.
