On 27 August 2018, Believers Eastern Church Kattapana local parish’s vicar and team visited Cheruthoni, one of the worst-flood affected places in Idukki District of Kerala, where they distributed essential items to 100 families.
The town of Cheruthoni was the first area to be hit by surging waters when shutters of the Cheruthoni Dam were opened for the first time in 26 years. The inhabitants of the locality had to evacuate their homes following the flooding and landslides. The destruction of Cheruthony Bridge, which connects northern and southern parts of the Idukki district, resulted in Cheruthoni being isolated from rest of the region.
The team from the church distributed a kit consisting of dry ration items, vegetables, and hygiene supplies like Dettol, soap, sanitary napkins, and clothes to 100 families. The recipient families were so grateful to the church for extending this help to them.
