The temperature in Jharkhand dropped to 1.8 degrees C this winter. The homeless especially suffered, having neither shelter nor warm clothes to protect them from the frigid weather.
To relieve these needy people, Believers Church Ranchi Diocese staff went into the city one night with 100 blankets. They found slum dwellers, rickshaw pullers and other needy people who were freezing to the touch. Many were lying on the ground as dead, so cold they had lost sense of their condition.
Many street dwellers gave thanks for what Believers Church was doing as they received their new blankets.
Similar blanket distributions were held throughout North India in response to the season’s extreme cold.
